Dunstable Town Guides
Dunstable Town Guides were set up in response to the overwhelming numbers who attended the walks that Vivienne Evans did at the town’s Tudor Festivals. They were so popular that on occasion the police had to escort the groups across the A5. Clearly there was enthusiasm in the town to hear more about its history so in 2003 Jean Yates, the Town Centre Manager and Vivienne got together a group of interested people and Dunstable Town Guides were created to pass on that knowledge.

Matthew Hopkins The WitchFinder General Interactive Ghost Walks Manningtree Essex
It has been reported many times that the ghost of Matthew Hopkins, the self-proclaimed Witchfinder General, can been seen, especially on nights of a full moon, still in 17th century clothing close to Mistley ‘ducking’ Pond and the nearby ‘hopping’ bridge not far from St. Marys Church, Mistley, Essex. He firmly believed that if his victims sank and drowned then they were innocent and now in Heaven – if they floated then they were guilty and would be tried as a witch. The end result would usually be death for the suspect either way. Other reports claim that the ghost of his first victim, the elderley and crippled Elizabeth Clarke who was his neighbour, also appears on the shores of a local mudflats area called Seafield Bay. Join the team as we go in search of the ghosts of Matthew Hopkins.
